about david ross by david ross
I was born in Houston, Texas in 1954. I like to make pictures that are about something. I have lived in Texas, Iowa, Vancouver Canada, San Francisco, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Hermosa Beach, Mammoth Lakes, Louisiana, Holland, England and Scotland. I live in Lake Arrowhead, California now. I don't wear an earing. I graduated from college, just barely, with a degree in Architecture. I am married to a girl named Debbie. I tried Zen but couldn't sit still long enough, but I like the idea. I was an architect for fifteen years. I painted a lot in college. I am not very social, but I am not very weird, for an artist. I climbed Mt. Mckinley. I like cold weather. I work really hard, but procrastinate over things I don't want to do, sometimes forever. I like to climb and backpack in the high mountains, unless there are a lot of mosquitoes. I try not to be a judgmental person, even though my art sometimes seems judgmental. I have one brother. I broke my arm as a kid but have been really lucky and never have done worse. I haven't been to art school yet. I used to snow ski a lot, but not so much any more. I played baseball when young. I went to college at California Polytechnic in San Luis Obispo California. I began drawing when I was ten years old because my father made drawings and I thought that was neat. I made my first real painting on canvas when I was about eighteen. If there are any blank spots in this autobiography you can make something up.
